Ever wondered if you should get a puppy? I'm the first to say it is a big commitment, but I'm also the one who thinks it is a great idea to have a puppy. Here are my top five reasons why you should get a puppy:

1. REDUCE STRESS:
Had a long day at work and feeling stressed? Well, that cute puppy will unquestionably brighten up your day. Playing with your puppy releases happy hormones which reduce stress and anxiety. It is very soothing to pet a dog and will instantaneously make you happy and calm.

2. RESPONSIBILITY:
A puppy will teach all members of the family (not only children but young adults as well) responsibility. It is rewarding to raise a well-behaved dog but it also takes work and planning to have a dog. A dog will always need the right level of care and attention.
3. BE MORE ACTIVE:
A puppy will force you to be more active. If you're not busy running around stopping the puppy from chewing the internet cable, you'll be outside playing fetch. It's scientifically proven that dog owners are less likely to develop heart diseases, diabetes and strokes compared to non-dog owners. Take time and enjoy those daily walks.

4. SOCIAL:
A puppy will definitely help you make more friends. You'll start to notice the same people on your daily walks, first, you'll only smile at each other then a simple hello will be exchanged, before you know it you'll stop and chat with each other while the dogs finally get to sniff each other. You might not feel sociable, but your puppy will give you a reason to go out and engage.

5. COMPANIONSHIP:
Dogs fill a meaningful role in our hearts and lives. A dog will always make it their mission to make their human happy. If you have a dog you'll always have a loyal friend.
“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
― Josh Billings
I can give a hundred more reasons why it is a good idea to get a puppy and of course, there are reasons why you shouldn't get a puppy. So, next time you're wondering if a puppy will fit into your lifestyle, why not foster a dog. This will give you some time to evaluate and see if you are ready. And if you're still not ready for the commitment but want all the benefits of having a dog, why not volunteer?
I do recommend that you do some research before getting a puppy, like what type of breed will fit your lifestyle and space you have available. Also, consider adopting, there are so many dogs (including puppies) in shelters that need a forever home.
